Refining dynamic range using levels
- [Instructor] Now that we know what the histogram represents, we should take a look at one of the more common ways to change the tonal values in an image. First, we'll make a global change to extend the dynamic range of this photo. And then we'll add a local adjustment to the painted sign on the building. From the bottom of the layers panel, I will add a levels adjustment layer. We can see the histogram is actually included in the properties panel here. I know that the image isn't making use of the entire dynamic range, because there's no dark values and no light values in the image. If I want Photoshop to automatically correct this for me, I can click on the auto button. And in fact, if I use the fly out menu and I choose auto options, Photoshop has a number of different ways to try to automatically correct the image. So the enhanced monochromatic contrast?
