Join Chris Orwig for an in-depth discussion in this video Project 4: New skin softening technique, part of Photoshop CS3 Portrait Retouching Essentials.
In this movie we will be learning yet another technique for softening skin.…We will be working on the file skin_softening.psd.…Go and open that one up in Photoshop.…Go to Full Screen View Mode and double-click the Zoom tool to go to 100%.…Now, when we go to 100% one of the things we see in this image that hasnt been retouched,…we see a lot of really nice detail in the skin.…Now we don't want to remove that detail altogether, yet we do want to soften it.…So I want to show you a new skin softening technique or at least it is new to me.…Check it out.…
What we are going to do is click in the Background layer, copy that layer,…press Command+J on a Mac, Ctrl+J on a PC and name this layer soft.…Next, we are going to navigate to our Filter drop-down menu, choose Other and High Pass.…You may be thinking, "OK, Chris, whats going on here?…I thought High Pass is all about sharpening."…Well, it is, check this out.…we are going to bring up the Radius until we see the amount of detail that we want to have softened.…Yes, that's right; soften, stick with me for a second.…
