Join Chris Orwig for an in-depth discussion in this video Project 2 pt. 3: Softening skin, part of Photoshop CS3 Portrait Retouching Essentials.
In the previous few movies we have been working on this file jenny_kim.tif.…We are going to work on that one in this movie as well.…We are going to get to skin softening here.…Well, what we need to do is to create three new layers, three merge layers; all of our underline layers.…On a Mac Shift+Option+Command and then press E three times, on a PC Shift+Alt+Ctrl and then press E three times.…So go ahead and name these layers, we will name this bottom layer soft…and then this top one t1 for Texture One and then t2 for Texture Two.…Turn off those top layers, click in the soft layer and navigate to your Filter drop-down menu, Blur and good old Surface Blur.…
What we are looking to do here is to blur this image out so that we are loosing detail;…it shouldn't look very good at this point we should be OK with that.…Another great way to blur is to go to Filter, Noise and Median.…Median applies some nice blurring as well as you can see here, we don't have the surface blur effect,…although, it holds edges pretty well, I like that.…
