Printing fine detail with bump maps
Bump maps are a type of texture map that create the illusion of fine detail. They are used in illusion and games when it would be too computationally expensive to have a super high resolution model. However, with 3D printing, you can get away with very dense models. For this reason, Photoshop has added a feature which converts these maps into actual, physical printable details. Lets see how it works. So, I've got this bull exercise file loaded. Now, I want to put a bump map on it. Now, I can load in a bump map that was made in another program. So, let's go to the 3D palette and let's go to OBJ's Material. Now, let's go up to the Material Properties. And you're going to have to scroll down. And click on Bump. And let's load the material into the Bump channel. Load Texture. Okay, so in the exercise files chapter one, folder 0108 we've got bull bump.jpeg. And you can see it's a gray scale image. So, in this image any dark areas are recessed areas and any light areas are parts that bump…
