Preparing the path and extrude

- We've drawn the outline of our lizard, but before we turn it into a 3D object, there's a very important thing we have to check first. With the path selection tool select the whole object, and now have a look on the options bar at this icon here. This shows the way in which overlapping paths interact with each other. The default, which is what we've got here, is for overlapping shapes to be excluded. In other words, where these overlaps occur, that would leave holes in our object. We want to change this to Combine Shapes. We not going to see any difference at this stage, but it will make all the difference when we make our 3D object. If we were feeling brave, we could choose Merge Shape Components from the bottom of this menu, and that will turn everything into a single object. We're not going to do this because it's going to make it harder to edit later. So let's undo that step. And now we're ready to make our object.
