- WIth our pawn now complete, all we have to do now is prepare it for printing. Let's go to the 3D menu and we'll choose 3D Print Settings This is defaulting to print the Shapeways Bureau, but because it's a simple object, I can print this myself out of PLA on my own 3D Printer. So rather than choosing a bureau, I am going to choose local. Here, it's going to give me choice in the printer section of a number of typical printers. I own an Ultimaker printer, which is a different model than these, so I am going to export this as an STL file. The next step is to set the volume of our object. Based on the original photograph, this is going to print at 112 centimeters wide... that's over three feet, a ridiculous size for this pawn. So I took a caliper to the original pawn and I measured the base at being just under 3 centimeters across. Now the trouble is, I don't know if my base is proportional to the original exactly.
