Placing an image as a Smart Object

In this exercise I'm going to show you couple of other ways to introduce a Smart Object into a composition. You can use the Place command or you can use one of the two Bridge variations, the Mini Bridge or the Big Bridge. I'll show you what that looks like. I've got ahead and saved my progress as Initial insect.psd, and there is my dragonfly set up as a Smart Object already. So I obviously don't need to do this. I just want to show it to you. Another way to work is you can go to the File menu and you can choose the Place command or if you loaded dekeKeys you can press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+D or Cmd+Shift+Option+D on the Mac.

Then go ahead and navigate your way to the Dragonfly skeleton.jpg file, click on it to select it and then click on the Place button. You will see this little preview here that is showing you how big the image will be once you place it and also where it's going to be placed inside of the composition, and look you get all your Free Transform controls, too.
