Photographing texture in trees

- To create our texture, the first step is to create an image in the field. And we're going to do this much like we would any standard image. We want a sharp, well-exposed photograph. I've got this gorgeous, wind-swept tree on a bluff, overlooking the ocean. Wonderful subject. And the sky, I've got some clouds and a little bit of blue sky above that. And remember, my goal here is a relatively bland sky because I'm going to build texture in it. So I don't want to shoot too vertical, I don't want to get that blue, I want to mostly get the white behind it. What I've discovered is the tree is quite wide, and so I'm going to do a panorama, and just simply hand-held. So let me tell you a bit about what I'm using. This is my backup camera, it's a Sony A-6300. It's a crop sensor, it's incredibly light and small, and when I purchased it, it came with a kit lens. This is just a little 16-50, it's about $100 lens. And I said "eh I'll give it a try," it's surprisingly sharp for a kit lens, but…
