Nondestructive transformations with Smart Objects
- Now that the bottle is placed on the new background and the mask has been improved, we can start modifying all the elements so that that will work well together. So next up, we need to transform the bottle a bit smaller so that it fits better into the scene. We'll do this non-destructively using a smart object. So, click on the top layer in the layer panel, the "merge bottle" layer, and make sure that the layer itself is active and not the layer mask. And once again, to tell that you can see the little highlight border around the thumbnail, so just make sure you click on the layer thumbnail to make sure that it is the active element. Next, I'm going to right-click on the layer here in the panel, and I'm going to choose "Convert to Smart Object". By the way, that same command can be found in the Layer menu at the top of the Photoshop interface down under "Smart Objects", "Convert to Smart Object".
