Join Jan Kabili for an in-depth discussion in this video Moving your Lightroom photos to a new drive, part of Photo Tools Weekly (2015).
- Hi, I'm Jan Kabili, welcome to Photo Tools Weekly.…In this episode I'll show you how to move…your Lightroom photos to a different drive.…Why would you want to do that?…Well the most common reason is bigger photos…are just outgrowing their current home.…Whether that's your computer or an external drive…that's too small for your growing needs.…Or if you're a pro, your workflow may include…archiving photos to external drives…when you're all done with the job.…Whatever your reason for moving photos…from one drive to another,…you'll wanna do it in such a way that Lightroom…can keep track of the photos in their new location.…
There are two ways to get the job done.…You can move photos from inside of Lightroom,…which is the most straightforward way,…but I'm not sure it's always the safest way.…Or, you can copy photos from one drive to another…outside of Lightroom,…and then update the links between the Lightroom catalog…and your photos in their new destination after the move.…That one requires a little more care…but I think it's a little safer as well for your photos.…
