Join Ben Long for an in-depth discussion in this video Moving subjects and auto ISO in low light, part of Exploring Photography: Exposure and Dynamic Range.
- If you've ever tried to shoot a moving subject in lowlight…then you've already encountered the difficulty…of trying to keep your shutter speed up…so that you can freeze motion while battling the lowlight…situation that leaves your images underexposed.…That's what I've got here and you may think well…that's kind of a basic photo 101 thing, isn't it?…Yes and no.…I wanna talk about it in terms of Auto ISO…because I've been noticing as I shoot in Auto ISO,…I tend to forgot to think about shutter speed.…Because I've set Auto ISO to protect me from handheld shake,…I had just assumed that my shutter speed is taken care of.…
And of course it's not because in this case…I'm not dealing with the problem of handheld shake,…I'm needing to freeze motion.…As I get right in here and start working,…a couple of things immediately become curious.…I am slanted at 5.6 because I wanna be sure my depth…of field is deep enough to get her.…She's moving around, it's hard to work in shallow focus…with a moving subject.…And I'm taking some shots and right away…
