The Motion workspace

- When working in Photoshop, you'll find the use of workspaces to be a huge timesaver. Workspaces configure the user interface in Photoshop and there's one specifically for working with motion content like video or slideshows. In Photoshop, you'll often choose to create a new document. You can do this by simply clicking on Create New. Now, you'll need to select a document size that matches your needs. We'll talk more about checking the exact option, but let's just go to the Film & Video category and we'll take a look up here at the blank document presets. I'll choose View All. For now, a good starting point is the very common HDTV 1080p. This will give us a document that's 1920 by 1080 pixels, a very common video size that allows for playback in high definition. Let's click Create to make a new document. Now, you'll see that Photoshop sets up and depending upon which tools you last used, you may notice that different options are loaded. For example, I'm seeing a lot of color themes from things that I was working on recently. What I'm going to do is change the layout of the application. So, I'll choose Window, Workspace, and you'll see a category here called Motion. This switches the workspace. However, I also suggest you choose Window, Workspace, Reset. This will ensure that it's loaded with the correct options. Now, you'll see that things are organized. Now, I don't need to worry about the libraries here. I'll just click over to Adjustments and I'm going to make a little bit more room here in the Layers panel so I can see things. Down below, we have the timeline options opened up and our new canvas is set up for video. Now, this works out very well and in the future, you might take advantage of workspaces for other things such as web design, or photography, or digital painting. You'll also have the ability to create and save your own workspaces based upon your preferences. But for now, the user interface is set up correctly and we're ready to move on to our next task.
