- In this chapter, I want to explore impressions. Now, you have seen the painterly look given to a photograph after the fact, and a lot of that is the creativity that you do in post-production, and we're going to be doing that with Topaz Impressions, which is a incredibly complex and powerful tool. But I also want to explore the idea of having intent in the field. Now, what I mean by that is instead of just taking any old photograph and saying, hey, let's turn it into a painterly photograph, let's think about what we're doing in the field. And so, what I've done here is I've taken a look at the wind and the effect that it's having on the palm trees and the waves behind me, and I realize that if I do a long enough exposure, I'm going to get kind of brush strokes within the leaves of the palm tree, I'm going to get kind of movement in the waves and movement in the clouds, and so in essence, I've started the process of brush strokes and becoming a painting.
