The Magnetic Lasso tool

- I like to joke that the magnetic lasso tool is used for creating selections of metallic objects in your photos. But of course that is not the case. Instead, the magnetic lasso tool is looking for contrast within the image. In essence, it's trying to find the edge of an object so that it can in a somewhat automated way help you create a selection of that object. Let's take a look at an example here to get a better sense of how the magnetic lasso tool works. I have this metal building of course, but again it doesn't need to be a metal object that we're trying to select. You can see that there's a clear distinction between the edge of the building and the sky. There's some contrast there and that contrast can be used by the magnetic lasso tool to somewhat automatically, not completely automatically, but somewhat automatically help you create a selection.
