Loading selections from channels with the mouse

When it comes to loading selections for use in a document, the textbook method if you have any saved selections-- So if I go take a look at the Channels panel, I have a saved selection here, it's called Alpha 1. And if I wanted to load that as a selection, typically what the textbook would tell you is go to the Select menu, choose Load Selection and then you would choose your Alpha channel or whichever channel you wanted. And you click OK and that's loaded as a selection. So you can then turn that into a layer mask or transform that, whatever you are going to do to that selected content.

So I'm going to go ahead deselect, Command+D. That's the boring way, okay. There is a much faster way to do that. And that's holding down the Command key on the Mac or the Ctrl key on Windows. If I have an Alpha channel in my Channels panel then I can just Command- click on it or Ctrl-click on it and you see I get a little special cursor there. That will load that channel as a selec...
