Lightroom for mobile: Creating vivid color

- [Chris] Hello friends, this is Chris Orwig and welcome to Photo Tools Weekly. Over the next few weeks, I'm going to be testing out a new idea and that is sharing little bite-sized learning tips and our learning tip for this week's episode comes to us from Lightroom Mobile. Here I want to talk about how we can create vivid color working with effects in the tone curve. All right, well, here you can see I have my image open. I'll start off by tapping on the effects panel. At the bottom of the effects panel, you'll find the button for the split toning controls. When you tap on it, it will open those up. Now, the great thing about this inside of Lightroom Mobile is you can just drag around until you find the right color that you want to add. I want to add a lot of yellow to the highlights there. Then I'll go to my shadows and I'll do the same thing with the shadows. I could add blues or greens or maybe reds. That might be kind of fun. So, here you can see we have this really vivid, deep, rich color palette. Tap and hold, you get the before, let go and you get the after. So, split toning gives you the ability to add really fun, vibrant and interesting colors into your photographs. All right, that's tip number one. Let me share one more tip with you. This one rather than going to effects, we're going to the light panel. Now, in the light panel, we have our normal controls, exposure, contrast, highlights, etc. We also have access to the tone curve. Tap on it and we get this great on-screen graphic. Now, with this image which I captured underwater, looking up at the surface of the water in the ocean, what I want to do is I want to add more contrast so I can drag this curve around just like we could in Photoshop, but I kind of like it how it's on screen so you can really see how it works. Then you can tap into the different channels. We can go to our red or cyan channels so here we can go to the red/cyan channel and modify that a little bit, the green/magenta we can modify the overall look, and then the blue channel. And why am I seeing these two colors? Drag up it's blue, drag down it's the opposite color yellow so here I'll drag up a little bit. I want to create nice vivid colors there and then tap on the first icon, that takes you back to the composite adjustment so it adjusts all the channels together. So again here, if we look at our before and after, you can see there's before, let go and now you can see the after. And of course, we can fine tune this if we feel like the color isn't quite right. We'll just tap through there and you can keep modifying that so you can improve and enhance the color in your photographs. Now, if this looks interesting to you and you want to learn more about Lightroom Mobile, you can check out my series of courses called Learning Lightroom Mobile. All right, well, thanks for joining me in this week's episode. Have a wonderful day and I'll see you next time.
