Isolating parts of the landscape using light

- In landscape photography you often hear about the golden hour, sunrise, sunset, and the hour on the other end. But what we want to focus on right now is shooting during the middle of the day. The Palouse is amazing to give us the ability to have many hours of fruitful shooting. We have clouds overhead and the clouds are providing shadows and the shadows are dancing across the landscape. And that dappled light of light shadow provides contrast. What I've found over here is I've isolated a group of trees and that group of trees is being lit by the sun, directly behind the trees shade. And that nice contrast enables me to make an image during the middle of the day. The key here is isolating. We've got a long lens on and we've got a 360 degree expansive view. We need to find something interesting within that. And the first thing that I want to focus on is a clear subject, a tree, a group of trees, a farmhouse, silos, and in this example I have a stand of trees that sets itself from…
