Turn boring beach photos into a dreamscape featuring a sacred cavern, using the transformative tools in Photoshop and these techniques from Photoshop master Bert Monroy.
- [Voiceover] So, in this dreamscape, what we're doing is we're creating this scene that we see here. It's this huge cavern somewhere guarded by these giant stone statues, and a ship that's come up and a whole bunch of people came out and they're going to go do something, like a sacrifice or something inside that cavern. That's the story. We make up a story and to create it, we use a bunch of different shots. Like we start off with this one. Here's the original shot taken on a vacation, and it's just a cavern down in Cabo San Lucas. Here's another shot, same vacation, taken from the same boat, and it's just a beach far off in the distance.
That's going to establish the scale of this cavern, making it huge by having these little tiny people far away, hanging out on this beach down below. Then there's going to be the ship that they came on, and this is the ship that's going to be used. We're going to go in there and take this ship out of this scene and put it into the scene. And how the people got from the ship to the beach? Well, this little boat right here is going to be used. This is a shot that you wouldn't show your friends. "Aww, look at the great vacation I took," because it's a gloomy day and it's just a shot of a canal but something can be used from it, which in this case is that little rowboat.
And then, finally, the two stone statues, which is just a shot shot with my iPhone against a white piece of paper, and lit so that the light and shadows are coming in the same direction as our overall scene, so we can see where all these things got put together to create this fictitious scene of this giant cavern with people getting off the boat and going into the cavern and these statues on top. It's just a question of going in there and having the idea, and then going through all your shots to find just the right shots to make the scene come to life.
