Importing 3D files
Before we can print anything we need to have a model to print with. In this video, I'll show you how to acquire and import a model into Photoshop. Now, there's lots of ways to get a model. You could make one yourself in a separate 3D modeling program. You can also purchase models from places like Turbosquid.com or you could find some free ones on places like Thingiverse.com. Photoshop will load in several common formats such as 3DS Max, DAE Collada, STL, OBJ, Flash 3D and Google Earth KMZ. Now in Photoshop to open the model, we just go to File and hit Open. Just like any other file. Now in the exercise files, I'm going to go to Chapter one. Folder O1, O1 and open up reptiloid.obj. Photoshop needs to create a new document to place the model within. Now let's look at the 3D units. If you know exactly what units it should be, you can change it from millimeters to centimeters, inches, or pixels. If you know what specific size it should be, you can change that size in either X, Y, or Z…
