Imaging fundamentals

This chapter deals with one of the most fundamental topics in all of Photoshop. Changing and managing the number of pixels inside an image. To fully understand this topic, you need to come to terms with the concept of image size. Image size refers to the dimensions of an image, how many pixels wide by how many pixels tall. As we'll see, image size also includes print size which is how many inches or if you prefer centimeters wide by tall. Print size is a function of resolution which is how many pixels print inside an inch.

Scaling an image often involves changing the number of pixels. This means throwing away pixels or making up new ones, a process known as re-sampling. If all this sounds tedious and technical, well you're right. But you have to know it, which is why I've constructed some spell-binding images that will so distract your attention. You won't even notice the golden nuggets of information seeping painlessly into your brain. Enjoy!
