- [Instructor] An images metadata can speak volumes about an image and reading the metadata is often a more efficient way of evaluating an image than the more time consuming route of opening the image in Photoshop. If you switch to the metadata workspace, you can view metadata in columns, but personally, I prefer to stay in the essentials workspace and then just click on the image thumbnail and read the metadata from the metadata panel. With practice, the camera metadata that we see right here can be very informative and can help you get the results you want from your camera. For example, if you know you want a shallow depth of field, that means a low number f stop or open aperture. By contrast, if you want a greater depth of field, then you need a higher number aperture. The image dimensions in pixels inform how the image can be used.
