How do I improve the dynamic range of a raw photo?
- When working with a raw file, you may encounter situations where the lighting is tough and the image doesn't have the same dynamic range that's ideal. Fortunately, this is an easy fix, particularly with raw. If we take a look at the histogram here, you'll notice that there's pretty good dynamic range, but the darkest shadows and brightest highlights aren't quite getting to the area that's necessary. I always suggest clicking the Auto button. This is because Adobe has updated auto in raw to take advantage of A.I. technology and it will automatically calculate the best results for your basic exposure. That definitely helped in the middle, but I can come here and move things around. Notice how the histogram is interactive, so if I want to pull the white point up, for example, I can do so. I always suggest turning on these clipping indicators here. Now, as you start to move things like the white point, you can see when pixels blow…
