HDR

- HDR, or High Dynamic Range imaging, sometimes called HDRI is a hack and a work around for shooting images that have a broader dynamic range than your camera can capture. Your camera has a limited range in terms of how dark to how light it can capture in a single frame and that range is much smaller than your what your eye can capture so very often as a photographer you have to choose to capture highlights or capture shadows. With HDR you can capture, in a way, all of it. Now, I've got an entire course on HDR so I'm not going to go too far into it right now, but I want to look at some HDR examples with landscapes to give you an idea of what's possible and help you understand what the issues are in choosing to use HDR. HDR is a fantastic tool to have in your toolbox. Sometimes it's the only way to save the shot, but it's really easy to overuse it. For example, here's a pretty overblown HDR.
