The Golden ratio crop overlay

- The next of our crop grade overlays is the Golden Ratio. This is at a ratio of 1:1.618 and it's a ratio that is repeated in nature, in art, and in architecture, and can sometimes be useful for cropping images. I'll come to the Crop tool, and then click on the image and this is the golden ratio grid, but if you need to cycle through your grid you can just press O until you get that. Now, like the Rule of Thirds it divides the grid into three rows and three columns, but you can see the central column is narrower than the outside columns. Arguably, this allows you to give more emphasis to the edges of your frame. So I'm going to switch over to Illustrator and just go over how this grid is constructed. I'll start with a rectangle drawn over my art board. I'll come to Path, and choose Split into grid, and I'll make sure I'll divide this rectangle into a three by three grid with no gutter.
