Join Ben Long for an in-depth discussion in this video Getting the look of a silver print, part of Inkjet Printing: Advanced Photography Techniques.
We're going to do something a little bit…different with this pair of movies.…I'm going to show you the finished result…that I'm looking for and then ask you…to go achieve it.…I'm doing it that way because the…affect that I want you to achieve is…difficult to describe in words so…I just need to show it to you.…I've got this image here, I'm throwing a…black and white adjustment layer on it.…I have done nothing to this layer.…It's stock.…It's just using the default recipe for…black and white conversion.…I'll give you a quick look at the…histogram here and hopefully,…even without the histogram,…by now you're starting to see that this…is a fairly monotonous image, tone wise.…
Maybe there's a tiny, tiny bit of white…somewhere out here but the majority…of the image is this stuff down here and…in the mids, very little tonal difference…between here and here,…not that much between here and here.…The whole thing just has an overall sheen…of dinge over it.…It needs to be corrected and fixed up a lot.…In film photography,…of course we are using chemistry…
