Feathering a selection
- When you use a selection as the basis of for example a targeted adjustment you wanna make sure that the area you're adjusting versus the area that you're not adjusting have a little bit of a smooth transition. We don't want an abrupt transition between the adjustment and the area that's not being adjusted we want a nice gradual transition. It might be a very tiny gradation between those areas but we want some degree of gradation so that we don't have this stark contrast between those two areas. That means that we're going to apply an effect feathering to for example our layer mask that generally is something I save for later I don't feather my selections I feather the layer mask after the fact it gives me a little bit more flexibility. But you may find that with experience with some practice that you know how many pixels you need to feather by in a certain situation and so you may just want to feather this selection and that is an option that's available.
