Exploring what we need before we shoot
- Before we start shooting with a long lens, it's important to survey the environment. We're on top of a butte, which is exposed to very high winds, so it's important to look around and see what can help us to shoot without vibration. We have a building, we have a couple vehicles. We're gonna position the camera so that we can block as much wind as possible. We're also gonna be using a very sturdy tripod. We're gonna have a tripod collar on the lens itself, mounted on the ball head. This keeps a little bit more balance. If you mount it on the camera, it has a tendency to tilt forward. So by centering it over the lens, you're gonna have more stability. We're gonna use a remote shutter. And the idea of the remote shutter, of course, is to make sure we don't press on the shutter to cause vibration so we've got the remote shutter. Once we have all these things set up, we're gonna go into live view. And when we go into live view, we're gonna look at the screen and see if there's any micro…
