Exploring a backlit landscape

- When you're shooting landscape, you're almost always shooting in a single light situation. The sun is your single light source. That means half the direction you're facing, the sun's gonna be behind you. The other half, of course, is going to be a backlit situation. There's nothing really tricky to landscape shooting with backlighting. As we're about to see, there are some very distinctive features that you get when working into the sun when you're shooting landscape. The main thing to remember though, is to not keep your back to the sun all the time. Most of the time, if you're walking away from the sun, you'll be seeing things lit up and go, "Oh, well, here's my photographic opportunity." And you won't ever think to simply turn around and look into the sun to see what you might find. When you do, you might see something like this.
