Desaturate to create a nostalgic image
- Sometimes an image wants more color, and maybe sometimes it wants less. In this movie I'm going to create a nostalgic look by desaturating the image. And do this, I will use a hue saturation adjustment layer to start with. One of the presets that we have is called old style which takes me more or less where I want to go. In fact, I'm not going to use this, but I am going to just desaturate manually going a little bit further than that preset. In addition, I would like to add a color balance adjustment that will move the mid tones towards magenta and towards yellow, simulating the kind of fading that you might get over time with an old snapshot. Now at the moment, all of my pixels are very smooth and digital looking so I would like to give them some grain to make them look more like film. I'll just collapse my properties panel so we have some room beneath the layers and right click on my background layer to convert it to a smart object so that I can apply filters in a nondestructive…
