Darkening a sky with Gradient Overlay

- [Instructor] All right, here we are looking at the final version of the composition, and very shortly I'm going to show you how to create these synthetic snowflakes in order to tie together the scene, but first I want you to notice the trees layer here. If I twirl this guy open so that we're revealing the layer effects and the smart filters, we have a gradient overlay effect. So if I were to turn that off, notice that the sky is so bright that we're losing those snowflakes. They just don't stand out, whereas with that gradient overlay effect we have a lot more contrast. So let me show you how that works. I'll go ahead and switch over to the image in progress. Notice my trees layer is selected, so I'll click on the Effects icon down here at the bottom of the Layers panel and choose Gradient Overlay. Next I'll go to this gradient item right here, and I'll click on the down pointing arrowhead and I'll change it to the second option, foreground to transparent. All right, now you just…
