- To mask something is to hide it. In this case we're going to actually hide part of the top layer to reveal down below. Unlike Photoshop where we had to put a freeze frame on top a video, Flixel has automatically added the freeze. So initially, the content looks static, however, we have an eraser to adjust the size of the eraser and play with the hardness slider to make a transition. Very hard or softer. I suggest showing the overlay here, so you really know what's happening. And now, simply paint. There we go. You'll notice that it's animated so I can see what's happening. And I'm just revealing where the flames are. These pixels will allow for motion. Everything else will not. Now if you get more than you need, you can also switch to the eraser, and here I can paint things back. What you're looking for is to make sure that the animated areas, in this case, the candle flame, doesn't touch up against that edge. There we go.
