Create a repeating pattern with the Offset filter

- [Instructor] A common usage of the offset filter…is to prepare your artwork so that…it can be made into a repeating pattern.…That's what I'm going to do here, beginning with this image.…I have applied to this, a layer mask,…which if I disable by shift-clicking on it,…we see that that is hiding any distracting background.…The next thing I want to do is change my canvas size.…I want to put this on a square canvas,…so I'll press command-alt-c, or control-alt-c,…Let's make my width the same as my height.…

Now I'm going to convert my layer to a smart object…and then reduce that in size.…I'm holding down my option and my shift key…so that I'm scaling from the center point.…Now I actually want to be a bit more precise…about it than this, but I'm going…to press return to commit to that.…I'll come back to my canvas size,…and just because it's an easier number to work with,…I'm going to switch this to a 2000 pixel square.…

Not absolutely necessary, but I think it helps in this case,…I'm going to come to the view menu…
