Correcting mixed white balance

- We've talked a lot about how shady situations can confuse an auto white balance, and shown how it's easy enough to correct for that by switching to the shade-white balance preset, or doing a manual preset ... or a manual white balance. I've also mentioned in passing that mixed lighting situations can be really difficult. I'm in one right now. I am lit for daylight, or lit by daylight-balanced lights, and the camera is white balanced for daylight. But that's a tungsten light back there, so it's looking very orange. I actually like the look. It's really nice here. It adds some warmth to the image. It's cool. It separates me from the background. However, there will be times when you want to correct for that, and that can be a very tricky edit. I had a shot here last night, a self portrait that I took. I went out looking for a situation like this. One of the easiest ways to find a mixed white balance situation is to go out at night and use your flash. I put my camera in slow synch mode,…
