Join Neil Rhodes for an in-depth discussion in this video Before you start: Two approaches to reducing texture, part of Photo Restoration: Removing Paper Texture.
- There are two useful methods…to minimize the texture.…We can use the four scan method.…The four scan method involves us making…four scans at 90 degree intervals on the scanner bed.…We can then combine them to cancel out…and minimize the texture with darkening of our layers.…What we need to do is keep the settings on the scanner…all the same, it's best to turn off auto exposure,…and levels, and any automatic corrections set to off.…We then know that each scan will have the same exposure.…Scan the image once, and then rotate it 90 degrees,…then three more times, rotating it a further 90 degrees…each time, in the same direction.…
We will then end up with four scans…from four different angles.…The other method is the FFT method,…or Fast-Fourier Transform,…a mathematical representation of the image.…Using this FFT equation filter, regular patterns…can be found and reduced, and then by reversing the equation…and reforming the image, good results can be achieved.…In order to make this work, you will need the FFT filter.…
