Applying textures for color printing
Although most printers are monochromatic, just printing in the color of the raw material itself, some 3D prints can be made in full color, for example, with the full color sandstone material on shapeways. Photoshop is fully capable of painting or importing these color texture maps. In this video, I'll show you how to create and import color maps so that you can print in full color. Depending on the format of the model, an existing texture map may or may not get applied to the model automatically when you import it. If a texture map exists but it doesn't get applied in Photoshop, we can always import it manually. So let's make sure we've got our 3D layer selected. Now let's go into the 3D palette. Now I want to find the model that is the reptiloid. So its the OBJ mesh, this is what we imported, and let's click on its initial shading group. This is basically the material that's applied to it.
