- So now that our house has been separated from its background, we're going to start to age it a bit and start making it look kind of grimy like you would expect a haunted house to be. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna turn on the background again, and I'm gonna fill that background with a nice, dark tone. We've got a black here. Just fill it with a kind of a gray, a dark gray. Just to kind of simulate what the sky is going to be like. So I'm gonna go in there and just fill that with that color. There. And now you can see right through there, see? See how it's a little lighter back there? Alright, so now we're gonna go to the house itself, and the first thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna go into my Hue/Saturation right there, and bring down Saturation.
I don't want it to be so colorful. It doesn't need to be freshly painted anymore. Just like that. And I'm gonna darken it a little bit, just a little bit brute force darkening like that. Click OK. Then I'm going to go into my Levels, and in Levels I'm gonna go in there, and start to punch up those blacks even more, see? It's gonna start to darken the house even more. Just like this. There we go, so now we're starting to get some real drama in there like so. And, we might want to get even more of that tone out so let's go back into Hue/Saturation, and bring down that saturation even more.
So there is no more elements of the paint left in there like that. Okay, so now we're gonna get real close to this thing here, and start to do more stuff to it. Now, right off the bat I'm gonna kind of grunge it up a little bit by maybe giving it a little noise. So, we'll go in there and say Filter, let's add a little noise to the overall thing. Not that much, just a little bit. Let's see what 8's gonna do. 8 just gives me just enough grime. Click OK. See? There's before and after.
It's just added that little bit of extra mess-up to it. Okay, so now what we're going to do is we're going to start breaking up a few things. So, like right here, this stuff, that's not very good. so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna clone, and I do want to clone. I don't want to just throw things away. I'm gonna go in here and clone, and I'm gonna kinda crack this up right in there. I'm gonna crack this so it looks like it's been cracked right through there like that. Okay, a little crack in there and let's throw a little crack over here on this one.
Okay, so it's just cracked, and we'll throw a little additional crack right down here. A little option click and start to clone over. So it's just kinda crack like that, and this bottom part is gone, like that. And now we've gotta start to crack this thing too. We'll start throwing a couple of little cracks in this so it's not so rounded anymore 'cause it just looked so clean before.
Oh, we can't have that. Our haunted house has to look messy. I've never seen a nice looking haunted house. Maybe some of the people inside of some houses, but no, no, this is a haunted house. It's gonna be just ghosts, and they haven't really been big on maintaining the house so you can see that I'm just going in there and breaking stuff up. Now, you can take it further. You can take it much further than I'm taking it here, but just to give you an idea of places where we can go in there and start to kind of mess it up, see? And you notice how I'm cloning straight across so that way it looks like we're seeing through it in there.
The same thing down in here. A lot of these guys. We could just take this step right here, and take that step and just bring it into here 'cause that piece broke off. See, right in there, that broke off so we're seeing the step behind it right in there like that. And, we could continue that whole set 'cause this whole rung right there is gone. Okay, and we could, let's get rid of here. I'm gonna take from right up here and clone that down into this area here 'cause again we've lost another one of the rungs, and maybe that was right there like that.
So now we can do more stuff. Let's just say we take this guy right here, and what we're going to do is we're gonna twist them. We're gonna drag this, drag the little corner guy right in there, and let's get real close so we can see what is going on here. We're gonna grab this little guy, and I'm gonna rotate him just a little. Just like that. Right in there like that he's cracked, and maybe off to the side like that.
Okay, I make that happen, and then I do an Inverse. I'm gonna say, select the Inverse. Why? So that I can go in there and then clone the parts that got broken off. So I say Option, click right there, and clone across, right into this area right in there. See? The part where this guy's in back so let's go in there and clone from there. There we go. Deselect. There you can see that that guy's broken. He cracked.
Now we start doing more of those same kind of things with just clone, like right here. We just take this piece right here and kind of bring it down into here, see? More pieces that are just missing. They've broken off. We do that right here. We just get rid of some of this. This guy right there. Okay, and now you can see how it's starting to work. Now we do a whole bunch of these. We can just get rid of a lot of these little rungs in here so that it starts to look like we are in fact messing up this house.
And here, these are easy 'cause it's just grabbing darkness and just putting it in there, getting rid of some of these guys, just so they don't look so even anymore, see? Get rid of a couple of them here. This one all the way down to the bottom, the top. Now you can see how it's starting to look, right? So we start messing up all these little areas, and in here what we can start to do is to get rid of some of these shingles. Some of these are missing so we could just pull it right from dark area here, and we just kind of paint the way these little areas here where the little roof has been taken away, and maybe we just take this dark area here and we just darken these guys up.
So it's just dark areas where they are missing a couple of tiles here and there. The same thing up here. Let's take some of this dark tone, and we lose a couple of these. They are just broken in certain spots, see? They broke away and got taken away somewhere. They got lost. Just like that. And all of this starts to give it that sense of age and destruction and so on. We're gonna get rid of a couple of these, and maybe just take a couple of dark ones, put them right in through there just so you start getting the sense that this roof has seen better days.
There we go. And all this nice stuff. We can get rid of a lot of this. Let's just go in here, and here we could just maybe darken it. Go in there to our Burn Tool, make it small, and we could just darken some of these guys just like here, see? And here, a couple in there. So we're just getting all kinds of little areas that are kind of messed up, and we're just getting rid of all that nice detail so that the house starts to look like it's in really bad shape.
Then finally what we could do is get a really tiny brush, bring the size down to about a 1, and then we could start adding little cracks here and there. Little tiny cracks all through the house. Little areas where things have cracked. Got little cracks going through here. Bring down the opacity to about, say, 50%, so the cracks won't be so pronounced, see? So you can start getting additional cracks all over the place. We start getting all kinds of cracks so our house starts to look really aged.
So, we start to pull back and you start to get a sense of our house is starting to look pretty bad. So, what's gonna happen in the next movie is we're gonna start adding the surrounding area to our house, put it in place so we start to set up that mood of being a haunted house.
