Adjusting the contrast of video footage
- Lets revisit contrast again. You can't really talk about exposure without contrast. They're closely related, but think of contrast as being the outside edge of exposure. Exposure's really in the middle. So, you can push things up or down, but what matters most is what happens at the white point and the black point. To clearly illustrate this, let's take a look at our friends, the zebra. I'm going to drag through here. And find a shot with zebras in it, right here. And this shots pretty good. But, what you'll notice is that there's a giant gap here in the shadows and not a lot of information in the highlights. Let's click to add a Curves adjustment layer. And this time, I'm going to take advantage of the eye dropper tools. So, for example, I can click to choose a black point. Such as the stripe here. And it pushes the contrast down making it a pure, rich black. Let's zoom in here a little bit. And take the white eye dropper and click on something that should be white. And you see…
