797 Adding some creepy lifeless pupils

- [Instructor] In this movie, we're going to further brighten the irises and we're going to also add in these creepy lifeless pupils. They're going to brighten up tremendously and that's because dust and scratches had gotten rid of some of the more fragile highlights, Then go up to the edit menu and choose the copy command, or you can press control C or command C on the Mac. All right, now, believe it or not, the best way to work as opposed to turning everything back on, which is kind of sluggish, is to just undo your way out of this. And in the newest version of Photoshop CC you do that by just pressing control Z or command Z on the Mac in order to backstep. So notice, if I press control or command Z three times in a row, I end up deselecting the image, which may make you think, well, if you had to press the keyboard shortcut three times, you must've undone the copy command as well. You can't undo copy, so we still have that clipboard. And then press control Z or command Z on the Mac to bring back dust and scratches, notice how quickly it came back, and then press control or command Z in order to reinstate the color overlay effect. If you're using an older version of the software you're going to have to press control alt Z or command option Z on the Mac in order to backstep. Now, I'll alt or option-click on that eyeball icon right there in order to bring back all my layers, and I'll select the topmost layer in the stack so that we're pasting in front of it. And now, if I were to return to the edit menu and choose the paste command that would just center those eyeballs like so. That's not going to quite give me the effect I'm looking for so I'll undo that. And I'll return to the edit menu, choose paste special, and then choose paste in place. And we paste those guys right where they need to be. And that's it, we're done with the effect. No, we're not. We still have a few things to do here. So I'm going to go ahead and zoom in like so. so that I'm affecting the contents of the active layer only, and then I'll click okay. And then I just went ahead and changed the white point value right there to 30, which is going to brighten the heck out of those irises. All right, now I'll hide the properties panel and I'll return to that more dots layer, which is a truncated name but that's what it's called, and I'm going to change its blend mode to screen so those new highlights are blending in with the ones behind them. And we need to get rid of this little edge right here and we're going to do that using a dark inner glow effect. So click on the FX icon down here at the bottom of the panel and choose inner glow. Doesn't always have to be a glow. It can be a shadow, especially if you change the color to black as I've done right here. And then change the blend mode to normal, it's good enough, and then crank the opacity value up to 100%. And then I set the size value to 10 pixels. Notice however that we're now seeing that black edge. And to get rid of it, what you do is you select blending options over here in the left-hand list and you turn on this top checkbox, blend interior effects as group. And what that'll do is apply the inner glow effect first and then apply the screen blend mode to the entire layer. All right, now I'll click okay in order to accept that change. All right, now we need to create a layer for the pupils. So click on the top layer again, 'cause we want to put our new layer on top of it 'cause we want to put our new layer on top of it and press control shift N or command shift N and press control shift N or command shift N on the Mac to bring up the new layer on the Mac to bring up the new layer dialogue box, and I'll call this guy pupils dialogue box, and I'll call this guy pupils and I'll click okay. And we don't want to grab the original ones 'cause they're not creepy enough. Instead, we just want to paint 'em with the brush tool. So grab the brush tool, which you can get by pressing the B key, right-click inside the document window, set the size value to 100 pixels, set the hardness to 0%, and then tap the D key to make sure that you're painting with the default foreground color, which is black. All right, and now you just want to click in the center of the iris like so and you'll make yourself a pupil. And that's pretty much how they look, by the way, And that's pretty much how they look, by the way, if you take a look at the white walkers in the movie. if you take a look at the white walkers in the movie. They just have these dead little lifeless pupils They just have these dead little lifeless pupils without any reflective highlights. without any reflective highlights. All right, now I'm going to press the M key All right, now I'm going to press the M key to switch back to my rectangular marquee tool to switch back to my rectangular marquee tool just so that I have a simple cursor. just so that I have a simple cursor. And now I want to take all this junk And now I want to take all this junk and put it inside of a group because the layers and put it inside of a group because the layers panel is just getting too cumbersome. panel is just getting too cumbersome. So the first thing you can do, by the way, So the first thing you can do, by the way, is alt-click or option-click on one of these is alt-click or option-click on one of these little up arrow icons that's next to any one little up arrow icons that's next to any one of these layers and that'll collapse all of these layers and that'll collapse all the layer effects and smart filters. the layer effects and smart filters. And then, with the pupils layer selected, And then, with the pupils layer selected, go ahead and drop down to this guy, go ahead and drop down to this guy, which is actually the black whites layer. which is actually the black whites layer. And now, you want to go up here to the top right And now, you want to go up here to the top right corner of the layers panel, click on the flyout corner of the layers panel, click on the flyout menu icon and choose new group from layers, menu icon and choose new group from layers, and that'll allow you to name this group eyes and that'll allow you to name this group eyes as you create it. as you create it. And now I'm sure there's other ways And now I'm sure there's other ways to pull this off but that is at least one way to pull this off but that is at least one way to create crazy glowing blue eyes along to create crazy glowing blue eyes along with creepy lifeless pupils here inside Photoshop CC. with creepy lifeless pupils here inside Photoshop CC.
