Vibrance affects the least saturated colors more than the most saturated, as if to fill in the saturation gaps. The saturation value impacts color intensity across the board, but does so logarithmically and with an idea toward maintaining luminance levels, or tones. Most of the time, you increase both values, and only slightly. So why might you take the vibrance value very low—into the deep negatives—and send the saturation value up through the roof? This video explains.
