773 Illustrator CC 2019 presentation mode

- [Instructor] All right, so as I was saying, I'm pretty crazy about a few new features inside Illustrator CC 2019, including the topic of this chapter, the presentation mode, which allows you to fill the entire screen with an art board. And so here I am looking at a document that contains three art boards. This is the first one. If I press Shift + Page Down, here's the second one, and Shift + Page Down again shows the third one. All right, I'm going to press Shift + Page Up a couple of times to go back to that first art board. Now if I were working inside Photoshop, I could fill the screen with an image by switching to the full screen mode. We also have a full screen mode inside Illustrator, and you get to it by clicking on this icon down here at the bottom of the toolbox. And by the way, if your toolbox looks a little different, it's probably because you're looking at the Essentials workspace, which is Illustrator's unfortunate default setting, in my opinion, because in addition to shoving the properties panel in your face, it also hides a bunch of tools, including some of the newest tools inside the software. Notice if I click on this little ellipsis icon right there, I'm going to see all the hidden tools, including the shaper tool, which as recently as a couple of versions ago, the software could not stop recommending. In any event, I like to see all the tools, so I'm going to switch from Essentials to Essentials Classic, which brings them all back. In any event, to switch to the full screen mode, you click on this icon, once again down here at the bottom of the toolbox, and you choose Full Screen Mode. Now in Photoshop, that entirely hides the interface and fills the screen with the artwork. Inside Illustrator, it does this. And even if I press Control + zero or Command + zero on the Mac in order to fill the screen with the artwork, I have this grayish background with these scroll bars, and if I try to use the right-hand scroll bar, then I bring back the right side panels. So obviously this is not a terribly helpful mode inside this particular piece of software, which is why it's so great that we now have the presentation mode command. And so I'm just going to press the Escape key in order to switch back to the standard screen mode, and then I'll go up to the View menu, and once again, you need to be working inside Illustrator CC 2019, or, I presume, later, in which case you can choose this command right here, Presentation Mode, which will go ahead and fill your screen with a trimmed version of the artwork, so you're not going to see the bleed, nor are you going to be able to edit your artwork. And so notice if I click, I advance to the next art board, which happens if I click again. What if you want to back up to the previous art board? Then you press the left arrow key, like so. And by the way, in addition to clicking, you can advance from one art board to the other by pressing the right arrow key. And so obviously this is a great way to present your artwork to a client, but it's also useful for creating slide shows. And then to bring back the interface and once again edit your document, all you have to do is press the Escape key. All right, so I don't love everything about the new Illustrator. I don't like the Essentials workspace, I don't like the big galumphing properties panel, and I don't like the full screen mode. But I'm a huge fan of the new Presentation Mode command here under the View menu.
