737 Shift-P for Puppet Warp!

- All right now I'm a huge fan of the Puppet Warp tool here inside Illustrator CC 2018 and later. In fact I would go so far as to characterize it as my favorite new feature in the last three years. But if there's a problem with it it's that it does not have a keyboard shortcut. So notice over here in the layers panel, if I twirl open the triceratops layer that in this particular document the group is still intact. And so I'll go ahead and target that group by clicking on that circular meatball. And notice I can now see all seven of my pins and I can move them to different locations if I like as well And so this is a very powerful feature. Now if I wanna see my anchor points once again I would just press the v key to switch back to my black arrow tool up here at the top of the toolbox, but again no keyboard shortcut for the Puppet Warp tool. If that bothers you as it does me then go up to the Edit menu and chose Keyboard Shortcuts, which itself has a shortcut of ctrl + shift + alt + k here on the PC or cmd + shift + opt + k on the Mac, and then I'll just go ahead and switch back to Illustrator default up here at the top of the toolbox. Notice that this item right here is set to Tools and that's what you want as well if you're working along with me. And then you wanna scroll down this list until you see the Puppet Warp tool, which inside this version of the software is located between Wrinkle and Free Transform, and then click over here in the Shortcut column and click again to make sure it's active. And then go ahead and enter any keyboard shortcut you'd like Now the p key by itself is already taken by the pen tool, I don't wanna change that, and so I'll press shift + p instead, which by default is already in use by the Perspective Grid tool, which is not a tool that I use on a regular basis. In fact I hate accidentally switching to that tool because it also brings up the Perspective Grid which can really get in your way. And so I'm gonna go ahead and switch that keyboard shortcut to the Puppet Warp tool. And if you wanna look at the conflict you can by clicking on this Go To Conflict button, at which point you'll see that the Perspective Grid tool no longer has a shortcut, which I think is a really great thing. In fact I don't see any reason the Perspective Selection tool should have a shortcut either, so I'll just go ahead and select that shortcut and get rid of it. And then I'll click OK to accept my changes at which point Illustrator will demand that I save a key set file. And so I'll just go ahead and call this guy Shift P for Puppet and click OK. And now I want you to notice if I return to the Edit menu and once again chose Keyboard Shortcuts that Shift P for Puppet appears as my active set and so I can switch it back to Illustrator defaults if I want. I don't wanna do that however so I'll click the Cancel button. And now notice if I press shift + p I will go ahead and switch over to my Puppet Warp tool at which point I can see all seven of my pins. And that's how you assign a keyboard shortcut to the exceedingly powerful Puppet Warp tool here inside Illustrator CC 2018 or later.
