555 Connecting neon letters with dark blockouts

- [Teacher] Alright, now so far, each one…of our letters is independent of its neighbors,…but if this were really truly neon,…that would not be the case.…Instead, all of the letters would've been molded…from a single glass tube.…And as a result, the letters would be joined together…by what's known as blockouts, which are…these dark regions right here, so called because…they've been blocked out using opaque glass paint.…And I'm gonna show you how to create these blockouts…inside Illustrator in this very movie.…Alright, so the first thing I'm gonna do…is draw some lines that are connecting the letters,…and this happens to be based…on an actual neon photograph, by the way.…

And so I'm gonna go ahead and grab the Line tool,…and just so I can better see what I'm doing,…I'll go up to the View menu and choose Outline…in order to switch to the outline mode.…You can also press the keyboard shortcut…of Control+Y here on a PC or Command+Y on a Mac.…Alright, now I'm gonna zoom in a little bit here,…and I'm gonna draw a line that starts right here,…
