The essentials of composition

- As you start to select imagery or place it or crop it within your documents, it's important to understand some photographic concepts. Let me share with you a few rules of composition that might help you identify good photos or influence which photos you choose. First up, look for a dominant area. This is an area of a photo where the eye is naturally drawn. In this particular case we have a strong area here in the center, as well as a bright highlight that pulls the eye in. This is going to automatically become the focus of the photo, and looking at what catches your eye in an image is important because it will help you decide how you crop or position, or if the image is a good choice. Another concept to think about is a simple rule of composition called filling the frame. Making sure that the content you're showing is quite active, and that the space is filled with the available details in the photo.
