- [Instructor] One of the new features added to the Elements Editor 2018, is the Open Closed Eyes feature. The idea behind this feature is when you've taken photos of people especially group shots, and inevitably someone blinks when you take the shot. My recommendation is always take more than one shot, because then you can use this feature to make someone's closed eyes open. Let me show you how that works. I'm going to go to my Elements Organizer, and I have two photos here that are very similar in nature.
And I'm actually going to select both of them and I'm going to go ahead and open them in the editor, 'cause I want you to see both of these photos. So if you go to the photo bin, you're going to see that I have this image where they're both looking at me, but she's not really smiling so much in this image. And then if I click in this image, now she's got a good smile but she happened to blink when I took the shot. So there's not much I can do about it after the fact except use this feature.
So here's how this works. I'm going to go ahead and close the one that has her eyes open and we're going to work with this one here. And what I'm going to do is I'm going to go to the Enhance menu and I'm going to choose Open Closed Eyes. And when the Open Closed Eyes dialog box opens, it is going to very similar to some of the other features that we've looked at, it's going to detect the faces in the image. And you can click on either one of these to make them the active face, and then you have a couple of choices here.
And you can try sample eyes if you want to, but to get a much better result, it's just better to have another photo of that person. Most helpful in this case, a similar photo with similar lighting. So you can either choose an image from your computer, or you could choose an image from the Organizer. And I really like that they allow me to access my Organizer from within this dialog. So I'm going to go ahead and click on the Organizer, and then you basically just have to scrub through here and find the image that you want to use that has the open eyes.
And so if I click on this one right here, that's the one I want to use. I'm going to go ahead and choose Done, and you'll notice now that in this window at the bottom, it's seeing the two people that are in the photo that I just chose. So I'm going to tell it to use this image of Claire with her open eyes and when I do, now her eyes are open. And so if you use the Before After button down here we can look at where we were.
You'll notice everything is staying the same, except that her eyes are now open in this image. So when I click the OK button, you're going to notice that it now merged these photos together. The one thing that I might do to clean up this image is straighten it, right? So we can grab our straighten tool and go ahead use these grout lines if you will, and that'll go ahead and straighten that and auto fill the edges which is perfect. That did a pretty good job, and now I can go ahead and save this version of that image.
So I'll go ahead and save it as a new edited version within the version set with the original, and go ahead and close that. And I'll think you'll agree that the Open Closed Eyes feature in the Elements Editor is going to come in handy when someone blinks when you take your shot.
