- Welcome, my name's Chris Orwig, I'm a pro photographer and I'm a teacher. Now I'm on the Photography faculty at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California. And right now we're up in the Santa Barbara mountains, and it is a beautiful morning. You know there's nothing better than getting up early and watching the sun rise, and getting out to take pictures in this exquisite light. You know, I love how Marc Riboud puts it. He says, "Photography is about savoring life at 1/100th of a second." It's as if we get more out of life by taking pictures.

And you know, the art and craft of photography, it requires more than simply pushing a button and taking a picture. It requires how we bring that image to life in post-production as well. And that's what we're going to focus in on here. How can we use Photoshop from a photographic perspective in order to create compelling and engaging and intriguing images. Well, we'll start off by looking at our approach to Photoshop. What is a digital image? And with that understanding, that will then help us learn how we can re-size and actually work with these digital files.

We'll also dig into the important topic of Adobe Camera Raw, which allows us to non-destructively make some incredibly powerful adjustments to our photographs. One of the things that you'll hear quite often in regards to Photoshop is that you need to select before you can correct. And we'll examine how we can make selections, and also how we can turn those selections into masks. So that we can limit our adjustments to particular areas. Whether it's changing color, or whether it's sharpening a particular aspect of our photograph. And of course we need to dig into the topic of adjustments.

How can we make our images really pop? Either by adding contrast or color, or simply by shifting the way the image looks in creative ways. Then finally, we'll examine how we can print our images. Well as you can tell, I'm incredibly passionate about photography and that passion extends to my post-production work as well. And here's what I hope, I hope that throughout this training title, that you pick up a bit of that passion. And that that passion fuels your growth and your progress as you learn how to use Photoshop.

So thanks for joining me, and let the adventure begin.
