- Many people associate older images with grain or noise.…This is because the cameras were often more likely…to produce this, particularly with the older film stocks.…Now, this is a bit of an effect, and don't feel that…you have to use it, but if you're going for that look,…here's how.…1st up, zoom in to 100%…so you can really judge the image.…Then, navigate to an area that's representative…of the shadows and the midtones.…You can then drag the Grain slider over,…and you'll see that it starts to add some grain in.…
Look closely there.…No grain.…Full grain.…And, while the slider stops at 1, it definitely put…a lot of texture into those flat areas.…In this particular case I like that.…I also find that cranking up the definition will enhance…that grain and the contrast even more.…Before, after.…Just look at that pop!…Using grain and definition together is a great way…to get a high contrast black and white image.…
Let's pop back out.…While you can't really see what's going on…with the grain at this magnification,…notice the definition, really helps that image.…
