Recovering highlights and shadows
- As you make adjustments, it's oftentimes quite useful to split the difference between shadows and highlights. This is particularly true if you're dealing with a tough exposure or a high contrast scene. What this does is adds contrast to the image and improves the dynamic range. Let's take a look at another example. We'll exit the previous photo by clicking Done, and double-click to go back to the grid view. Scroll down and locate the HDR file here for the Burj Khalifa at Night. Select it and double-click to open it up. Now, click the Edit button to go into Edit mode. What I want to do here is really split things. You'll notice with the Shadows slider, how that affects the overall dark areas. And in this case, lowering the shadows a bit is actually improving things. And I'll actually increase the black point to get rich sky.
