Join Richard Harrington for an in-depth discussion in this video Adding the black-and-white effect, part of Photos for OS X: Enhancing Images.
- I'm a big fan of working with black-and-white images.…Now I shoot color and then use the color information…to convert to a black-and-white or a grayscale image.…Let me walk you through some of the…different options you have when working…with photos for OS X.…To start, let's go with a relatively simple image.…This one here of the cemetery.…I'll double click to open it and then choose Edit.…In this case, go immediately to the Adjustments section.…
You'll notice that part way down…you have a black-and-white adjustment.…Feel free to collapse these adjustments for now for color…and go right to Black & White.…If you click the Auto button, it will attempt to analyze…the image and create and black and white.…You can also drag through that slider…and you'll see that different parts…of the image are emphasized.…In this case, the tree becomes a lack of total detail,…as opposed to up here where the different shades of green…are mixing to create a more compelling black-and-white,…or over here where the water has a bit more breakup.…
