- So when it comes to shooting headshots indoors, the most important thing to think about is your primary light source. And for this shot in particular, the light source is the window that we used to light her. We added some supplemental bounce in thanks to our DIY reflector with the aluminum foil, and that was very beneficial because it helped soften the light, but that's really all we did. The biggest takeaway tip for lighting and the location of that light is that the exact same light can look great and the exact same light can look terrible. It all depends on where it's located and how it's falling on your subject. So I'm just going to use my Stella Pro 8000 as an example for this, I'm going to turn it on, and I'm just going to take it to 500 lumens just to illustrate a point. This is a great light for lighting a subject when it's coming from the right flattering angle, but this exact light can look really bad if you just relocate it to an unflattering angle, all right?
