In order to get a good exposure with your Canon DSLR camera, you need to ensure accurate metering. Most of the time, your camera gets it right, but you can switch metering modes to help it out. Richard Harrington describes what Shutter Priority mode is and how to use it to control your Canon DSLR camera’s exposure.
- If you'd like the benefits of program mode,…but want more control over shutter speed,…then try the shutter priority mode.…Now, on your Canon it's labeled TV,…as in time value.…And this is useful when shooting sports…or fast moving subjects like birds in flight.…It allows you control and freeze the action.…Or you can go the other direction,…and actually slow the shutter speed down…to smooth things out like flowing water.…To shoot in shutter priority mode,…just turn the top dial here so it is in TV.…
You may have to press the button…in order to make that turn.…And that will adjust.…Now, we can use the main dial here…to adjust the overall speed.…You'll notice that the aperture number changes.…For example, as we go with a faster shutter speed,…eventually the aperture can't open up anymore…and the number starts to blink.…If I slow the shutter down,…notice it affects it as well.…Now this is all driven by factors…such as the sensitivity and the amount of available light.…
Let's go ahead out of auto ISO for a moment,…and go with a value of 400 ISO.…
